The Kythera has been the most eagerly anticipated products from PolarStar in the past decade. This HPA system is a radical departure from all previous systems that PolarStar has produced since the Kythera does not use a battery, an FCU or any type of electronics. The Kythera is completely mechanical. This means you never have to worry about charging batteries or work with delicate electronics. It also means that the system is completely waterproof.

The name "Kythera" (ky-the-ra) was derived from the Antikythera Mechanism which is a mysterious device that was discovered by sponge divers off the coast of the Greek island Antikyther. The mechanism was so advanced in design that scientists have been studying it for decades to discover its purpose. The machine dates from around the end of the 2nd century B.C. and is the most sophisticated mechanism known from the ancient world. Nothing as complex is known for the next thousand years. The Antikythera Mechanism is now understood to be dedicated to astronomical phenomena and operates as a complex mechanical "computer" which tracks the cycles of the Solar System.

For this reason we used the name Kythera for the valve mechanism at the core of a new line of PolarStar mechanical HPA systems. Although it contains very few parts and is easy to install and maintain, the system incorporates a very intelligent design and is unlike anything else on the market. The system was designed as a mechanical system from the ground up and uses a realistic trigger mechanism which can be applied to single-shot, semi-automatic and fully-automatic systems. The first of these systems is Kythera SA (Semi-Automatic), the semi-auto-only variant for use in AEG gearboxes.

So, what makes the Kythera so unique?

Realistic Trigger

What sets this system apart from other mechanical systems is the design of its trigger. The trigger mechanism is designed to replicate the function, weight and feel of a real single-action firearm trigger. It feels real because it is real. The hardened alloy steel sears catch and release the stainless steel spool valve in the same way the sears of a real firearm catch and release the hammer or striker. This gives the Kythera trigger the distinct break and reset you would expect to feel when firing a real single action firearm. The trigger mechanism in the Kythera SA is also adjustable, allowing the user to fine tune the weight and over travel. Additionally, the internal firing valve is balanced and the only force applied during firing is the main spring. This means the function and feel of the trigger is independent of input pressure and velocity.

Complete Shot Cycle

The design of the Kythera SA completes a shot cycle on the trigger pull. This gives you the proven closed bolt performance of the Fusion Engine and F2 in a completely mechanical, waterproof system with a realistic trigger. It does not require the trigger to be released before the nozzle chambers the next round and the firing volume is refilled. This occurs automatically and consistently every shot, with adjustable nozzle dwell and return speed. As the system resets and recharges immediately after firing, it is ready to fire again before the trigger has been released. This means the system can cycle very quickly for faster follow up shots and a lower potential for double feeding.

Extremely Efficient and Consistent

The valve design of the Kythera operates without the need for air to control the opening or closing of the valve. Without a pilot valve, 100% of the air going into the system is fired through the nozzle allowing it to operate very efficiently. In addition to being extremely efficient, the system is also extremely consistent. The valve is released at the same point every shot with the same force applied, regardless of trigger input.

Universal Charging Cord

The steel cord visible at the back of the system is attached to a cocking mechanism for the internal spool valve.  Although the system automatically cocks the spool valve when the system is pressurized, since the Kythera uses a balanced valve, it is possible in certain situations that the valve could stall and needs to be manually cocked. This typically only happens if the system is run completely out of air so that the pressure drops below the operating range of the system. The cord is designed to be either routed through the grip of the rifle for easy access or even possibly attached in some fashion to the charging handle.

Easy Installation

The Kythera SA system installs into a standard gearbox as a single assembly and typically does not require any modification to the gearbox. There are no separate parts to install and the only parts needing to be retained from the gearbox is the trigger, spring guide, selector and safety components.

Wide Velocity Adjustment Range

The Kythera has a wide operating pressure range of 60psi to 180psi which allows you to fine tune the velocity of the system and tailor for different requirements and applications. Within this pressure range we observed a muzzle velocity of 270 - 500fps w/ .20g using a 6.05x380mm barrel. This lets a single Kythera be used in any role ranging from CQB to Sniper by mainly just adjusting the input pressure from your air rig.

The GEN 2 Inferno is the culmination of a great deal of work to take the next step forward in the development of HPA technology. Over the past couple years since we launched the SMP, multiple other companies saw the value of this type of technology and have attempted to replicate its performance. The Gen2 once again leaves everyone far behind.

The GEN 2 Inferno features a revolutionary single solenoid, independent poppet and nozzle design that sets a new standard for a drop in kit. Particularly, it is designed to solve the "open bolt problem". It is a hybrid design which keeps the advantages of an open bolt system: easy tuning, no first round dry fire, efficiency, and adds the simplicity of easier hop up tuning that closed bolt systems have traditionally offered. What is F2?

F2 is essentially a Mini Fusion Engine. It offers the same adjustability and performance as the Fusion Engine in a cylinder sized package.

Patented Dual Solenoid Design

The dual solenoid design of the F2™ provides the same functionality as the legendary Fusion Engine™ but in a more compact, efficient and flexible design. Dual solenoids allow for the nozzle and the poppet valve to be adjusted independently of each other for unparalleled control over both the loading time and air volume used. Additionally, this makes it possible to change the firing sequence giving it the ability to operate in both true closed bolt as well as "AEG" mode.

Increased Efficiency

The F2™ incorporates a new one-piece, lightweight poppet valve design yet still operates on the same principle as the Fusion Engine™ poppet. This valve is able to operate at lower pressures and uses less air volume to function which optimizes air efficiency. The standard F2 poppet is equivilent to the Red Low-Flow poppet of the Fusion Engine.

Spring Loaded Nozzle

The F2™ nozzle is spring biased forward which provides a consistent loading force regardless of operating pressure. It shares the same spring as the Fusion Engine™ with both light and heavy spring options available to adjust the loading force. The robust design of the F2™ allows for an operating pressure range of 45psi to 145psi which enables it to achieve velocities from CQB to DMR while employing only one nozzle for the entire velocity adjustment range.

What is the difference between F2, F1 and JACK ?

Both F1 and JACK are "open bolt" systems, meaning the nozzle is in the rearward position when the system is idle and the round is fired during the forward movement of the nozzle. F2 is a dual-solenoid system which allows for complete control over the shot cycle

At first glance the GEN3 FE looks very much like the GEN2 and, for the most part, the two are quite similar. However, unlike its predecessor, the FE GEN3 is no longer just for the M4/M16 series rifle. We applied the same concept used with our Version 3 Fusion Engine™ so that it is now able to interface with the selector plate and related components of your existing AEG’s gearbox.

The FE GEN3 will come complete with a trigger and steel selector plate so that it can be installed into any airsoft gun which is Tokyo Marui compatible. However, by installing a different nozzle or rifle specific conversion kit, you will be able to expand the number of rifles it will be compatible with. In most cases all you’ll need to do is change out the trigger and selector components with ones from your AEG, install a different Fusion Engine™ nozzle, and the engine is ready to use in a completely different model of rifle.

The internal operation of the Fusion Engine cylinder assembly are exactly the same and share many of the same parts, so it offers the same stellar downrange performance and rock solid reliability as its predecessor. This GEN3 does however feature a new side plate design to accommodate the AEG selector plate and is equipped with a new electronic switchboard. One advantage to this new design is that the switchboard offers a wider contact point with the selector plate to allow for varying tolerances in the rifles selector assembly making for improved out-of-the-box compatibility with an increased number of rifle brands.

As requested by many of our fans, the FE GEN3 will come standard with our newly redesigned “Milsim Manifold”. This feature enables the user to install an optional 90 degree fitting inside of their engine allowing the air line to be routed to the rear of the engine and exit through the buffer tube sling plate on an M4 series rifle.

As with all of our engine models, you can quickly change and adjust key functions of the engine via the on-board FCU (Fire Control Unit) which is no bigger than an AEG`s MOSFET and can easily fit inside of a rifles battery compartment along with a small Li-po battery. Using the FCU`s five position joystick and LCD display you will be able to easily adjust such functions as the systems cyclic rate, fire modes and nozzle timing on the fly.

With the Fusion Engine™ in your rifle you will also be able to adjust its muzzle velocity via the remote air rig (sold separately). Adjusting the PSI output on your air rig will allow you to fine tune your rifles muzzle velocity so you will always be able to get it exactly where you want it. And then for larger velocity changes we offer a series of air nozzles with varying bore sizes to shift the velocity adjustment range up or down to best meet your requirements.

The best part is that our system is extremely user friendly. Even if you have only the basic understanding of an airsoft rifle, you will find that operating and manipulating this system is very simple and does not require a degree in airsoft engineering to figure out.
