Airsoft optic mounts and supports: risers, scope rings and mounting plates

A mount connects the optic to the replica and sets its height. This category covers Picatinny risers, scope rings, RMR plates for pistols, dedicated AK, MP5 and FAMAS mounts, as well as optic protection.

Picatinny risers: setting the optic height

A riser attaches to the Picatinny rail and raises the optic. Its main use is to put a red dot at the same axis height as a magnifier, otherwise the reticle is not centered in the magnifier. It also lets players aim with their head upright when wearing a mesh mask, which prevents a proper cheek weld on the stock.

Heights range from 0.5 to 1.5 inches, up to the AIM-O NVG high rise mount, which sets the optic 59 mm above the rail. For Micro T1 style optics, the PTS Unity Tactical Fast Micro Mount V2 has the height built in.

Rings for rifle scopes

A rifle scope is mounted with rings chosen according to its tube diameter: usually 25 or 30 mm, sometimes 34 mm. Check this value on the scope's product page, along with whether rings are already included. On a replica with an 11 mm dovetail rail, an 11 mm to Picatinny adapter allows standard optics to be fitted.

Scope rings also come in three heights: low, medium and high.

RMR plates for pistols

On a pistol, the red dot is fitted with an RMR plate, not on a Picatinny rail. Almost every model has its own footprint: the plate must match both the pistol and the red dot, like this Gate RMR plate for the PTX HPA.

Replicas without a standard rail and offset mounts

The AK and the FAMAS have no standard Picatinny rail. They need a dedicated mount, such as a side rail for AK or a Picatinny rail for FAMAS. Dedicated rails are also available for the MP5, G3 and Remington 870.

A 45 degree offset mount, such as the Firefield RA-45, places a red dot to the side of a scope or LPVO. By tilting the replica, the player switches from one optic to the other without changing grip.

Protecting your optic: kill flash and lens protectors

A single BB is enough to break the lens of a red dot, whatever its price. A kill flash, specific to each optic model, protects the lens and reduces glare, like this AIM-O kill flash for RMR. The flip-up lens protector, on the other hand, is universal and attaches to the Picatinny rail.
