The PolarStar Hop Up Thing is a hop-up chamber designed for standard V2 M4/M16 airsoft replicas equipped with either an AEG electric system or an HPA pneumatic system.
The body is machined in-house at PolarStar in the United States from 6061-T6 aluminum. The manufacturer specifies a machining tolerance of ±0.002 inches, approximately ±0.051 mm. The design aims to ensure proper component positioning, nozzle alignment, and air sealing.
Adjustment uses a TDC (Top Dead Center) slider system, which applies vertical pressure to the hop-up bucking through a nub. This mechanism accommodates 3 × 4 mm nubs. According to PolarStar, this arrangement is intended to provide more consistent hop-up performance from shot to shot.
The modular design allows fitment to be adapted to different AEG and HPA configurations. Interchangeable gearbox lips and barrel slot bushings are available separately to reduce nozzle play and movement of the hop-up chamber within the outer barrel, respectively.
The package includes:
- The hop-up chamber and its operating components.
- A 0.305-inch gearbox lip, described as the standard size suitable for most AEGs.
- A 3 × 4 mm round nub.
- Five shimming O-rings and a barrel retaining clip.
- An ARO tool designed to facilitate installation of the small 1 × 1 mm O-rings.
Hop-up bucking and inner barrel not included.
