The MK46 is a lightweight version of the M249, featuring a handguard equipped with Picatinny rails. Developed for USSOCOM, this weapon remains in use today. Designed in the 1970s, the FN Minimi (short for *Mini Mitrailleuse* or "Mini Machine Gun") is a 5.56x45mm light machine gun intended to boost squad firepower in combat. Its gas-operated, locked-breech design allows it to fire using the M27 disintegrating belt—typically holding 100 to 200 rounds and housed in a rigid ammo box or fabric pouch; however, the FN Minimi is also one of the few light machine guns capable of directly accepting STANAG magazines without requiring parts changes, should the gunner run out of belted ammunition.
